Dental fillings are used to repair a tooth which has a cavity. Our dental office uses white and silver amalgam fillings. However, if you have older amalgam fillings, we will check to ensure that they are not failing. If your old amalgam fillings are failing and no longer sealing your teeth to protect them from bacteria, Dr. Weitz will replace your old silver fillings with your choice of composite fillings or silver fillings to restore your beautiful smile. Dr. Weitz uses mercury-free composite resin white fillings which have a natural color to match your tooth. This type of dental filling preserves your natural look and smile, but silver fillings still may have to be placed when some insurers will not cover the cost.
Composite Fillings
A composite dental filling is a tooth-colored filling used to restore decayed teeth. Composite filling is also used to make cosmetic improvements of your smile by changing the color or reshaping disfigured teeth. They can be used on front or back teeth and preserve natural look of your teeth.
Sedative Fillings
Sedative dental filling is a temporary filling used to repair a decayed, cracked, or chipped teeth. Temporary filling is intended to relieve pain and is used to give the patient time to decide what can be done with the tooth. When teeth have extensive decay and are approaching the pulp (nerve), we may choose to place a sedative filling to soothe the pulp, then arrive at the proper treatment for the problem. Making the best decision while not in discomfort.
Replace failing Amalgam Fillings
Should you replace old silver fillings amalgam with tooth colored or white composite fillings? Dr. Weitz always checks for failing amalgam filling during his routine checkups. The age and the size of the old restorations will determine replacement with either a white or silver filling, Dr. Weitz may determine a crown is the best choice.
